A good 20 guage shotgun?

Looking to getting the wife personal protection, but she is small (100lbs) so the recoil of a 12 guage is too much. Any recomendations on a reasonable priced 20 guage that is well made?

$400 MSRP - Remington Model 870 Express Synthetic 7 Round. Model Order # 81100

http://www.remington.com/products/fi...ound_specs.asp

$30 cash back rebate now. You should be able to get the price lower than MSRP between 350-375 and get the $30 rebate on top of it. Gotta move quick to get the rebate - Buy by the end of the month and 15 days to put in the request.

I have a mossberg 20 gauge. My daughter is 100 pounds and can handle it. To be perfefly honest we both hate the damn thing. We can fire it but itis too loud and has too much kickback. You might want to consider a rifle or handgun. Make sure she shoots it before you buy it..

Recoil has nothing to do with the gauge it has to do with Newton's law of equal and opposite force. Stay with the 1oz or less shot load and low recoil powder and she'll be fine with a 12.

+1 on the Remington 870 in 20 gauge...only problem if she is petite, a shorter stock like one that's on the 870 Youth model or a Choate 870 Youth stock (MidwayUSA) is a must. It will fit her much better than the factory length and she will be able to manage recoil better...this one has an 11 3/4 inch length of pull...

Mossberg 505 youth/bantam.

However you are incorrect in your belief that the 20 recoils less than the 12.

Saiga 12 Gauge. Being semi-auto there isn't a lot of recoil like with a pump. If you think 12 gauge is still too much, then a Saiga 20 or even a Saiga 410.

Good points on semi-auto shotguns. Don't give up on the 12 gauge, it really is superior firepower as compared to the 20. See if you can find somewhere that she can test fire a Rem 1187, or the Mossberg semiauto 12 gauge (forget the model #, but substantially cheaper than the Remington).
